Art

Our Art program

We’re proud to have a vibrant art department led by Lauren Tan, a senior at Great Neck South High and an award-winning artist with a deep commitment to community service. Lauren serves as Director of Art at We Inspire and is also the President of her school’s Art Club, where she inspires young artists through her leadership and passion.

As the lead teacher for our free art tutoring program at local libraries, Lauren dedicates her time to helping younger students explore their creativity. Her leadership was instrumental in the success of our recent Fall Festival, where she and over 30 We Inspire volunteers designed and implemented ten engaging children’s activities, including face painting, balloon art, slime making, pumpkin painting and more. Lauren’s creativity and enthusiasm made the festival an unforgettable event for everyone involved.

Tutoring

Virtual English Tutoring for students in China

By encouraging American youth to teach English and American culture to their peers in China through online platforms, we hope the young generations have a global vision and a better cross-cultural understanding and communication. By participating in this tutoring program, the young teachers have developed their speaking skills and cross-cultural communication ability. It is particularly worth mentioning that, through the weekly communication, they have also provided their peers in China, who may have limited access to information, with a different perspective and a window to understand the world.

“1+1” Learning Buddies Program

“1+1” Learning Buddies inspires a love of learning one child at a time. Through the relationship that builds with their Mentor, the Little Buddy is inspired to work hard on challenging tasks. They soon take pride in accomplishments achieved through their own efforts. The result is improved skills and/or self-esteem. We also see proud parents, grateful teachers and volunteers who grow in maturity as they share in the child’s pride and achievements. For the Big Buddy, i.e. mentors, they gain meaningful and rewarding volunteer experience with an opportunity to act as a role model to children and develop leadership and communication skills. The program currently offers Math Buddies, Reading Buddies and Music Buddies.

Knowledge share

We Connect Information Sharing

We noticed that lots of wonderful opportunities and information out there are not widely known, such as the extracurricular resources available to students of different age groups, and local community projects suitable for teenagers to engage in. We will facilitate this by organizing regular offline workshops and sharing resources online. Through the information sharing platform, and workshops led by older kids who have previously applied for these projects, we aim to connect people with opportunities so they can better utilize various available resources.

Translations

Volunteer Translators/Interpreters

Free Translation and Interpretation Sessions are held periodically in neighborhood parks and library meeting rooms to help address the need of many recent immigrants in seek of language services incurred in daily lives, such as translating utility bills, bank letters, medical invoices etc. Volunteers are adults or adult supervised teens with bilingual skills.
